Corona [COVID-19] Vaccine Update In India 2020-21

Coronavirus vaccine update: 2 vaccines could be eligible for emergency use in India by Jan, says AIIMS chief

Coronavirus vaccine update: AIIMS Director Randeep Gularia has said that two coronavirus vaccine candidates that are in their phase 3 trials could be eligible for emergency use in India by January 2021.

Two coronavirus vaccine candidates that are in the phase 3 trials could be eligible for emergency use in India by January 2021, All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Director Randeep Guleria said. Recently, the United Kingdom (UK) approved Pfizer Inc's coronavirus vaccine, jumping ahead of the rest of the world in the race to begin the most crucial mass inoculation program in history.

Pfizer India Saturday requested an emergency use authorization for its Covid-19 vaccine in India, becoming the first pharmaceutical company to do so. The move comes after Pfizer’s parent company received such a clearance in the UK and Bahrain. In its application submitted to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), it has asked permission to import the Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 mRNA vaccine for sale and distribution in the country.

Currently, India has five vaccines in advance phases of clinical trials with the Serum Institute of India conducting phase-3 trials of the Oxford-Astrazeneca and Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR conducting trials for its indigenously developed vaccine candidate Covaxin.

Meanwhile, a plea was filed on Saturday in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre to ensure refund of “exorbitant” amounts charged by private labs and hospitals for conducting RT-PCR tests to detect COVID-19.

Coronavirus vaccine likely to be ready for India next year says, scientist

In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government had promised an indigenous vaccine as early as mid-August, a claim the government and its apex medical research body has since walked back.

A vaccine for the coronavirus will likely be ready by early 2021 but rolling it out safely across India’s 1.3 billion people will be the country’s biggest challenge in fighting its surging epidemic, a leading vaccine scientist told Bloomberg.

India, which is host to some of the front-runner vaccine clinical trials, currently has no local infrastructure in place to go beyond immunizing babies and pregnant women, said Gagandeep Kang, professor of microbiology at the Vellore-based Christian Medical College and a member of the WHO’s Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety.

The timing of the vaccine is a contentious subject around the world. In the U.S., President Donald Trump has contradicted a top administration health expert by saying a vaccine would be available by October. New Delhi:

American pharma giant Pfizer has sought approval from the country's drug regulator - the DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) - for emergency use authorization of its coronavirus vaccine, say sources. The vaccine is ready to be rolled out in the United Kingdom and Bahrain. This is the first such request received by the DCGI amid the race to find a vaccine for the deadly virus, which has affected over 96 lakh people in India

The vaccine received DCGI approval for Phase I & II Human Clinical Trials and the trials commenced across India from July 2020.

After successful completion of the interim analysis from the Phase 1 & 2 clinical trials of COVAXINTM, Bharat Biotech received DCGI approval for Phase 3 clinical trials in 26,000 participants in over 25 centers across India.

What  P.M Say about Vaccine

Coronavirus vaccine could be ready for its administration in India in a few weeks and the vaccination would begin as soon as the Centre gets a go-ahead from the scientists, PM Narendra Modi said on Friday. Addressing an all-party meeting with the state representatives to discuss the coronavirus situation, PM Narendra Modi said the pricing of the coronavirus vaccine and its distribution is being discussed with the states.

PM Modi also maintained that the priority would be given to the frontline workers who have been at the forefront of the fight against the infection.

PM Narendra Modi said the storage logistics of the coronavirus vaccine is being looked into. Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had asked the states to start working on cold storage facilities as Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine, which is 95 percent effective in preventing the disease, needs to be kept at minus 70 degrees Celsius. Many big cities across the world lack facilities for cold storage of vaccines at this low temperature.

"With the help from state governments, other needed cold chain storages and logistical support are being measured. Special software has also been developed for vaccine stock and real-time information," PM Modi said.

"Nearly eight vaccines are on other stages of trial with their manufacturing assured in India. Three coronavirus vaccines from India are at different stages. Experts think that the vaccine isn't too far away. In the next few weeks, a coronavirus vaccine could be ready for India," PM Narendra Modi said.

Hailing the work being done in India to develop a coronavirus vaccine, PM Narendra Modi said the world is watching India for the cheapest and safest coronavirus vaccine. "Our scientists are very confident of succeeding in their endeavor of making coronavirus vaccine. The world is keeping a watch on the cheapest and safe vaccine. That is why the world is watching India."
